Sept. 12

In math this morning, we practiced skip counting by twos and looked for the pattern in the hundred chart. Ask your child about what they noticed (key words: odd/even, doubles, digits, ones/tens place).

We then applied this knowledge to a word problem and some students shared their thinking with the class, which was very helpful for us all. We saw a variety of ways to show the math thinking. Below are a few examples. We discussed the importance of knowing exactly what the question is asking you, finding the useful information, showing your math (and keeping it organized), and writing the answer in a sentence.

In the afternoon, we re-read the book, What Do You Do With a Problem? Using the key words from the story, the students worked in small groups to retell how the problem evolved into an opportunity. Each group was able to work together, agree on a sequence, and come up with the lesson of the story. It was very interesting to see what words went at the end of the sequence. Take a look at the examples below.

In Social Studies, we learned where India is on the world map.

Please remember that tomorrow is early dismissal (11:45).
